Surprising village, having visited which, the person creative hardly remains indifferent, is in Finland all in 400 km from the center of Petersburg. From that place where the majestic Kazan cathedral adjoins to the big ancient house in which has taken place a part of a youth of composer Sergey Vasilevicha Rakhmaninov, and now there is well-known, especially in creative circles Art hotel “Rakhmaninov”. The last summer before emigration the great Russian composer with a family has spent to Finland.
This fact was solving for founders of Art holding “Rakhmaninov”. When they have made the decision on acquisition of the big site in wood with a huge solar glade and the mountain, several cozy izbas in the Finnish-Karelian style and small wooden small restaurant on 35 places.

Recently, we made a video report from the exhibition of sculptor Simun, It took place at the Blue Salon of the Artists Union. At first sight he seemed to be sullen, but than his charisma and creative energy holed us in thrall and surprised so much. We planned to make a short interview,  but his bright, emotional monologue turned into an mono performance of real genius about the life, work and creation.

The exhibition presents over 30 works or two dozen photographers, who were shooting garment created by Cristian Dior, Balenciaga, Jaques Fath, Givench and other luminaries who created high fashoin in France at that time.

Show-room “D3″ opened in Saint-Petersburg

At the VIII Design Biennale “Modulor 2011″ took place the designers fashion show, in the category- students.

Photo

At the Karl Bulla photoshowroom the anniversary exhibition of Paul Markin was held, Pavel is a photojournalist with 40 years experience. All work has been exhibited for the first time.

Markin started shooting for newspapers in 1968, and during that time has worked in dozens of publications , in the 80s he has served as dean of  photographers faculty in the St. Petersburg Union of Journalists, however, he continues printing regularly  as a writer.

The exhibition “Familiar Strangers” - is not only a thirtieth exhibition and anniversary of Markin. He turns 65, and the same number of works is on display. The name is also an ulterior motive: for more than 40 years of his career at a press photographer there is more than one hundred shots, missed the headlines, but are no less and, at times, even much more valuable.

The report of this kind is, at least make possible to trace the shift of several eras through the eyes of one artist.

Cinema

In St. Petersburg from 21th till 30th of October took place the International Film Festival, “Side by Side” , where films of different countries, raising topics and issues of alternative sexual orientation representatives were shown. One of the interesting events of the festival – the opening exhibition of African photographer Zanele Muholi in space “Taiga”.

The main event of the film festival, as we thought, was the meeting with the singer from the UK  Marc Almond. He brought to this uncommon event his favorite movie that was shown in one of cinema halls MIRAGE CINEMA.

We must pay tribute to Mark, he was personaly watching the hole film, so that after in a warm and friendly and I can even say homely atmosphere to speak with the audience.

Such a cute-cute Marc Almond, quite ultimate, gave a very full and long answers to audience questions. And in the end he complained that in his opinion tolerance to gays in Russia is growing, but as yet it is “with frowning brows”. Mark even expressed his concerns about closing a festival at all.

Marc Almond often happens to be in Russia, admits his love to our country, and even in Siberia it somehow skidded, but seems to be not quite aware after all, it turns out! We decided change his opinion by asking a question that caused a slight commotion in the hall (see our video report).

In general, this evening caused a very positive emotions, adding a good intellectual charge to brains. The only pity is that there were not much people, as it was expected, and I did not see any representatives from non-traditionals from the fashion public of our great city on the Neva.

In the end of April in St.-Petersburg took place the traditional Easter charity auction.  Money obtained from the sale of porcelain eggs of Imperial Porcelain Factory, pained by celebrities, will be used to support Children’s Home № 53 of Viborgsky district.

ARTWAY.TV crew could not ignore such an important event for the city also because this charity auction has set a record in the event  history.

Besides the fact that 32 eggs were put to the sales (more than in previous years) the biggest number of mega-stars was involved to lots creation. Judge for yourself: Deep Purple, Monica Bellucci, Elton John, Sharon Stone, Enrique Iglesias, Alisa Freundlich, Edward Gil, Evgenu Grishkovets – this is just a short list of world and national celebrities who have agreed to paint lots.

The hardest debates started among the bidders for the item painted by the legendary band Deep Purple. It was purchased by Art-Hotel “Rachmaninov”, for it’s famous contemporary art collection, for the record value of 41 000 rubles.

In addition, the Art-Hotel “Rachmaninov” purchased two items, painted by Nikolai Valuev and a group of “Tiger Lilies”, and Andrew Urgant curing , who confessed that he began to paint the egg just before, right after arrival from India. A trip to the country set him into philosophical mood, so there was a on the egg: “There are no miracles, there is only love. And love – is a miracle. This is a vicious circle. ”

He promised to bring his work to Boutique-Hotel “Rachmaninov” himself, as soon as it will be finished. By the way, the hotel already has in it’s collection a tiger painted by Urgant last year for the auction to support the rare animals.
